Biography

Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Madelyn Renée received her bachelor’s degree from the Juilliard School of Music, New York City. She made her professional debut with the San Diego Opera as Mimi in La Bohéme opposite Luciano Pavarotti, a role she subsequently performed with the tenor in other theatres including the Sydney Opera House in Australia.

During her career, Ms. Renée has performed more than thirty-five operatic roles in major opera houses and festivals worldwide, notably the Metropolitan Opera, the New York City Opera, the Teatro alla Scala, the Vienna State Opera, the Opéra National and the Opéra Comique (Paris), the Sydney Opera, the Opéra de Montecarlo, the Deutsche Opera (Berlin), the Oper der Stadt Bonn, the San Francisco Opera, the Houston Grand Opera, the Budapest Opera, the Academy of Music (Philadelphia), the Salzburg Festival and Geneva’s Grand Théâtre.

In addition to Teatro alla Scala, the artist has sung at more than thirty opera houses in Italy among which Rome, Parma, Turin, Palermo, Venice, Bologna and Bari.
Ms. Renée has performed as a soloist with numerous orchestras, including the RAI National Orchestra, the Rossini Festival Orchestra, Milan’s Verdi Orchestra and Manchester’s Halle Orchestra, under the baton of distinguished conductors such as Sir Georg Solti, Richard Bonynge, James Levine, Lorin Maazel, Daniel Barenboim, Gianandrea Gavazzeni, Alain Lombard, Gustav Kuhn, and John Mauceri. She frequently appeared with Pavarotti in concert, at Avery Fisher Hall, the Kennedy center (Washington D.C.),  the American West Arena (Phoenix), the Rosemont Horizon Arena (Chicago), the Hollywood Bowl (Los Angeles) and at Madison Square Garden (New York) .

Ms. Renée’s repertoire ranges from Baroque to Schoenberg.

TELEVISION AND FILM

Madelyn Renée has frequently appeared on Italian television and hosted a weekly classical music talk show entitled Un Tocco di Classica, during which she interviewed international artists such as Placido Domingo, Luciano Pavarotti, Ruggero Raimondi, Leo Nucci, Mirella Freni, Raina Kabaivanska, Riccardo Muti, Claudio Abbado, Carla Fracci, Luciana Savignano, and Micha Van Hoecke.

She was cast in Francis Ford Coppola’s film The Godfather III, in the opera sequences from Cavalleria Rusticana, and appears in Ron Howard’s 2019 documentary film Pavarotti: Genius Is Forever.

Ms. Renée hosted live performances in High-Definition Broadcasts from opera theatres in Italy for cinema viewing, also available in DVD.
